What not to say to your pain doctor

As a chronic pain management doctor, I’ve received a variety of threats over the years. Here’s a recent example from a patient I just dismissed. They tested positive for “methamphetamine.” Their response to my dismissal of them was: “I will get a lawyer, . . . I will start using street drugs, . . . if I’ve been using meth, it hasn’t killed me yet.” What great arguments to keep your medications! Just the type of things your doctor wants to hear!
